My ancestors are bound to be happy with what’s been happening lately on the genealogy front. Earlier this week, I found someone on myheritage.com who is perhaps a sixth or seventh cousin to me. We’re related through the Roush line on my mom’s side. I contacted them wondering how we were related and got a reply to let me know that it was through the Roush line, and she would like any Jewett information I would have so she could add it to her family tree. So I’m slowly typing up what info I have into an e-mail to send to her soon.
Just this morning something else awesome happened. I received an e-mail through Family Search from a woman who is related to Friedrich William Wockenfuss and wondered if she and I were somehow related. As it turns out, Friedrich is great-great grandfather to both of us. She is related to him through his oldest son Gustav, from his first wife Wilhelmina Witkowsi who died in Germany along with their other five children. Friedrich then married Augusta F. Ristau, who bore him six sons and a daughter. I am related to Friedrich through his second youngest son Louis Martin Wockenfuss, my granddad’s father. So if I’m figuring this correctly, the woman that contacted me is my third cousin. This is so amazing, getting to know who I’m related to out there!
