Humpty Dumpty's Not an Egg after all...

So after I finish checking my e-mail and sign out, there on the yahoo page is a photo of Humpty Dumpty the egg falling off his wall with the title "Humpty Dumpty's missing word" subtitled "What major detail does the nursery rhyme leave out and why?"  It leaves me curious because what could be missing from the nursery rhyme?

Well, come to find out... nowhere in the rhyme does it say that Humpty Dumpty is an egg.  Oh yeah... I think, it doesn't.  Yet all the nursery rhyme books have him drawn as an egg.  Turns out the illustrator of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland was the first to draw him as an egg.  He's even an egg in the movie Mother Goose's Rock & Rhyme.

The article tells more about the rhyme, including what the term "humpty dumpty" stood for, so it's definitely something to check out.

  1. Awesome! I love nursery rhymes, and I love Lewis Carroll, so it was fun to read that!
