Vocations and writing and such

It's my turn to teach the young women of my church on Sunday and the lesson is about choosing a vocation. How fitting, considering that I don't have one myself. But they do say that the teacher learns as much as the student, if not more.

I love to write, and I love to read. I can certainly use those to an advantage and make some kind of income off of it. I'm even taking a novel writing class, but my own novel isn't coming along as well as I'd like it to. I've changed the time period it was originally in - which reminds me that I need to finish reading my friend's novel, since it was partly the inspiration of my novel - and of what I have written so far, I only truly love what is now chapter 5.

I'm tossing around different ideas for a particular character - Reed Bentley - who is essential to a part of the plot, as well as a friend of my main character Selene. He is a member of the Sovereign Guard (the military in my novel), but how long has he been a member? Right now I have him just signing up for training. Or would it be better if Reed had been a Trooper (the nickname for the Sovereign Guard) for a few years and is in the same platoon with Selene's younger brother Primus?

Oh, so many things to rethink for this novel. But I won't despair! I know I can do it.
