"Because a physical body is so central to the Father's plan of happiness and our spiritual development, we should not be surprised that Lucifer seeks to frustrate our progression by tempting us to use our bodies improperly. One of the ultimate ironies of eternity is that the adversary, who is miserable precisely because he has no physical body, invites and entices us to share in his misery through the improper use of our bodies. The very tool he does not have and cannot use is thus the primary targest of his attempts to lure us to physical and spiritual destruction."I remember this fireside and how wonderful it was. Yet it was today that this particular quote just struck me so strongly. How many of us don't truly understand how special our bodies are, how blessed we are to have them? Satan does not have, nor will he ever have, a physical body of his own, and thus no eternal progression. So he wants us to be as miserable as he is by convincing us to treat our bodies with disrespect. How often do we harm these precious gifts to us?
From Pres. Packer (president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles), quoted in a sidebar of the article:
"Our spirit and our body are combined in such a way that our body becomes an instrument of our mind and the foundation of our character."Mosiah 4:30 says, "But this much I can tell you, that if ye do not watch yourselves, and your thoughts, and your words, and your deeds, and observe the commandments of God, andcontinue in the faith of what ye have heard concerning the coming of our Lord, even unto the end of your lives, ye must perish. And now, O man, remember, and perish not."
